Parris Island Romaine

Since we started our garden in 2013 it has been very difficult to grow lettuce varieties due to the extreme conditions of going from freezing to snow, then hail to hot sun. I know that we could do better with a hoop house but it takes money and right now it is just not in the budget. So we make due with what we have to work with but one day in the future Lord willing we hope to have a green house on our property.

Most of the lettuce varieties we have tried in the past have been bolting quickly or have been very bitter. This year we decided to try a romaine variety called Parris Island. This variety has done the best for us so far and I pulled a few leaves off last night and they tasted perfect.
